Tickets available for Armed Forces Memorial dedication
The Armed Forces Memorial (AFM) will list some 15,500 names of members of the UK Armed Forces (Regular and Reserve) who have been killed on duty, or as a result of terrorist action, through serving with HM Armed Forces since the Second World War. This also includes members of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Merchant Navy who have died while serving in conflict zones.
It will become a memorial of national significance, a focus for remembrance which will provide appropriate recognition and thanks for those who have given their lives. Uniquely it will give prominence to the civilian sacrifice that accompanies military losses, and will be a place where families and friends can go to feel a connection with their loved ones, and receive the Nation's acknowledgement for their own suffering.
The Memorial in Staffordshire will be dedicated on Friday 12 October 2007 , and tickets are available for the ceremony.
3,000 tickets have been allocated for families and friends of those killed on duty since 1948, and will be allocated proportionally across the six decades.
Application forms are available online from the Armed Forces Memorial website www.forcesmemorial.org . Tickets are very limited and can only be allocated on a first come first served basis. Please apply early if you would like to attend. Closing date for applications is 14 September 2007. There are still some tickets available.
